C anarian Honey is a traditional product in the Canary Islands. It should be noted that Ron Miel (“Honey Rum”) originates from the Canary Islands, so the importance of honey production and its quality in the Canary Islands are undisputed.
Honey has been produced on the islands for centuries and has traditionally been passed down from generation to generation. Canarian Honey has a wide variety of types and flavours. It all depends on the flowers from which the Canary bees get their nectar.
A honey obtained from a single species of plant will have a totally different taste from those honeys in which bees mix their nectars from different plants. We must add the great variety of the Canarian Flora, which has many native species, which leads to the production of exclusive and unique honeys in the world.
Canarian Black Bee
One of the keys of Canarian Honey is the Canarian Black Bee. A genetic jewel that has remained on the islands since time immemorial. However, the introduction of new types of foreign bees is threatening the local population of black bees.
For this reason, the Government of the Canary Islands through the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food is promoting a project for the recovery and selection of the Canarian Black Bee on the island of La Palma.
